What Are We About? In 1935, President Franklin Roosevelt established the Rural Electrification Administration Act. The Rural Electrification Administration Act was intended to supply the rural areas with electricity. The REA became effective in 1936 and had offered many people jobs so that they could make a better living. "Rural Electrification Administration 1934-1941." What Is Our Purpose? The REA's main purpose was to improve the living conditions on farms. For instance, electricity had replaced wind power, which made work on the farm easier, provided running water, and was used as a source of light. However, electricity on farms was not only to improve farm life, but also delivered jobs to many immigrants in need. This new deal program was to make sure that The Great Depression would never happen again. http://www.livinghistoryfarm.org/farminginthe30s/life_09.html http://nfwm.org/education-center/farm-worker-issues/timeline-of-agricultural-labor/
Where Will Our Program Be Used? The Rural Electrification Administration will be used in the countryside. The reason why they decided to have it in the countryside was because many people over there were poor and could not afford electricity. Once the Rural Electrification Administration Act was established, there was only about 10 percent of rural Americans that had electricity, which eventually led to about 50 percent in 1950. Overall, the REA would be best in a rural area because it would have a positive benefit for the agriculture and for the people's living conditions. http://www.encyclopedia.com/history/encyclopedias-almanacs-transcripts-and-maps/rural-electrification-act-1936
How Will We Achieve Our Goal? The way we will achieve our goal is by taking advantage of the low interest loans received by the government. With these loans, many farmers will be able to afford electricity and have electric lines built. Also, many of the farmers could make a profit off of selling their foods, which can be used to keep improving farm life. This new deal program would be a very successful attempt at trying to stop The Great Depression from occurring because of the many things it has to offer. http://www.encyclopedia.com/education/news-and-education-magazines/rural-electrification-administration-1934-1941 http://www.livinghistoryfarm.org/farminginthe30s/life_10.html
